Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is Naturally Beautiful Ever
Dear friends,
I am going to share my experience of Ghorepani Poonhill trek how naturally before. Now a
day, it quite changes than before with accommodation, transportation, and the
living style of local people. However, they are protecting their culture as
their ancestor.

On 11 Apr In 2002, I had traveled to the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek with three British
girls and group leader Mr. Suraj Neupane. The girls had an internship at
Manipal College in Pokhara. The girls had booked the trekking from Bhandari
Tours and Travel and the agency had sent me as a helper (porter) of their
customers. This is really the first experience of my life which made me very
excited even though, it was considered an inferior job.
Mr. Suraj is
a kind person who taught me abundant lessons about tourism in Nepal. I respect
him as my Dai (brother). He had guided me on how to walk and respond to
customers. He motivated me to work together rather than doing seniority.
In the
morning, we put our clothes in his trekking bag. He knew that I never walked on
the hilly side. He tried to reduce my unnecessary things. Then he called the
local taxi to go to Manipal hospital.
While we
reached the hospital to the reception of our guests, I saw three separate bags
with them. I felt anxious and talking myself “oh god how could I carrying these
three detached bags”. We silently picked them up from Manipal hospital and
drove to Nayapool wherefrom our trekking would begin.
After
reaching the Nayapool, their bags had been carried themselves without our help.
That circumstance had made me overjoyed because I became totally free. Our
clothes had been carried out by Suraj dai. I felt that I was so lucky.
We followed
the guide and checked out the permit in Birethanti then had our breakfast. The narrow valley of Modi gorge between two
formidable hills detached the lifestyle of the urban and villages of Nepal. We
turned the left side and followed a small river. The trekking path seemed
narrow and stair of stones. On the way to Ghorepani, we saw a beautiful
waterfall. Our guests took lots of photos. We had halted at Sudame for our
Lunch. A local woman brought a bottle of homemade juice that we enjoyed and
relaxed until prepare our food. We continued our trekking and reached the
Tikhedhunga. It is situated on the small base of three hills. We rested for
half an hour and started to ascend the steps of Ulleri. I felt hard. Our guests
also felt the same as me. Perspiration
had wetted our clothes and body.
At that time,
I could not speak English very well. When I saw our guests, they look tired. I
laughed with roar sound because their inexperience walking style was a little
strange. Their motion of foot was extremely weary. They asked me why you were
laughing. But I could not reply to them because of my little English knowledge.
After that, our guide had translated and said that Mr. Bishwa compared with a
newborn calf. They also started to laugh and made fun, which continued up to
the Ulleri.
The Ulleri is
surrounded by green hills. The tranquil environment and cold atmosphere then
Pokhara city was really enjoyable. When I looked back from the top of Ulleri,
the scene was breathtaking. Wonderful views inspire us to remind our tireless
journey. In the Evening, The lodge owner burns a fire in the dining hall which
was really new for me. We played cards for an hour then took our dinner.
We woke up
early in the morning and we refreshed by the cold water. I had eaten bread and
a cup of tea. After breakfast, we being farewell from the hotel and started to
ascend the hills. We had a rest in
Banthanti and enjoyed a cup of tea. We entered the moist Jungle. We saw some
birds, monkeys, bees, and, rhododendron. I walked spontaneously on the path and
stood by a pond for 10 minutes which would come before reaching to Nangethanti.
We passed the jungle, however, I was very
excited by visiting the many tourists along the way. In the Nangethanti, some
hotels had been providing the service to tourists who are tired and hungry. Our
target was directly to reach Ghorepani. We did not take lunch, even though,
were hungry. We walked trampling the fallen leaves from the tree. That is the
biggest rhododendron Jungle of Nepal. Here we could find the various colors of
rhododendron.
At about 2:30
o'clock, we arrived at Ghorepani. The Ghorepani is a beautiful village situated
at the elevation of 2800 m from the sea level. It is compared with a bride
because it is surrounded by rhododendron jungle and the higher snow-covered
Mountains of the world. It was totally isolated. At that time, they did not use
the internet, telephone, vehicle, gas, etc. instead of those, they used to
wood, mule, porter, etc. The most of hotels were made by woods and mud, and the roof was blue.
We ordered
lunch. Then I entered the bathroom for a bath. While I was taking a bath, the
water had been becoming very hot which made it difficult to take a bath. I was
confused. If I didn't take a shower, I would have applied soap to my body, if I
took a bath I would not be able to stay in the cold until the water had become
cold, but I took a bath by making the water cold little by little. After lunch,
we visited the shops and returned quickly. Today, we must go early in the bed
because the next day we must wake up 4:30 for sunrise in Poon Hill and we did
so.
We woke up,
wore warm clothes, and hiked up to Poon Hill. The Poon hill was our highest
elevation of entire the route that would be the final goal today. We arrived at
the top and waiting for sunrise. When the sun was seen in the mountains, almost
tourists started to take photos. The incredible view of Mountains and almost
rhododendron bloomed forest had beaten the heart. The awesome view I have never
seen before and maybe even later. The major peaks are- Annapurna I, II, III,
IV, Annapurna South, Himchuli, Dhaulagiri, Barhashikhar, Nil Giri, Fishtail, and
Manasalu. After an hour we return to our hotel and took our breakfast.
Unfortunately,
a lady became sick with diarrhea. Even though, we continued our journey owing
to the lack of time. That day I carried her bag. It was easy for me. We had
been enjoying with lots of singing and walking. Sometimes, the lady would go to
the bush for the toilet. We crossed ascending and descending trail in the
hills. Thus in the evening, we reached the Ghandruk. That village is considered
the best village in Nepal. Then the next day we walked to Pokhara. That day was
our New Year. We walked along the Modi River. We crossed the paddy field,
husbandry farm, and culturally rich Gurung and Magar villages. The trail meets
in Birethanti as a center point of trekking. We walked for half an hour and
took a taxi to Pokhara. Thus I completed my first remarkable trekking. I have
visited many countries but I cannot forget the trekking, because this Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking became a base to establish my own company named AdventureMountain Treks.
